Antigua and Barbuda Falcons‘ challenging campaign continued as they fell to their second straight defeat in the Caribbean Premier League, losing by six wickets to St Lucia Kings at Gros Islet despite posting a formidable total of 204/4.
The Falcons’ batting display was anchored by a spectacular 26-ball 61 from Shakib Al Hasan and a solid 56 from opener Amir Jangoo, but their efforts were overshadowed by an extraordinary century from Kings’ Tim Seifert that rewrote CPL record books.
Seifert’s devastating 125* off just 53 balls equaled Andre Russell’s record for the fastest century in CPL history, as the Kings chased down the 205-run target with ease in just 17.5 overs, completing the fifth-highest successful chase in the tournament’s history.
The defeat compounds the Falcons’ recent struggles and sees them slip further down the standings while the Kings moved to the top of the table with their commanding performance.
The Falcons got off to a promising start through openers Jangoo and Jewel Andrew, who guided their team to 51 without loss during the powerplay. However, the introduction of Tabraiz Shamsi turned the tide dramatically for the home team.
Shamsi struck with his very first delivery, inducing Andrew to sky a catch, before immediately claiming Karima Gore for a golden duck with a thick edge that was well caught by Roston Chase at slip. The South African spinner’s early double strike threatened to derail the Falcons’ innings completely.
Shakib’s arrival at the crease transformed the match dynamics. After safely negotiating the hat-trick ball, the experienced all-rounder unleashed a batting masterclass that temporarily shifted momentum back toward the visitors. His assault on the Kings bowlers was relentless, featuring back-to-back sixes off Chase and a brutal over against David Wiese that yielded 25 runs through three fours followed by two maximums.
The highlight of Shakib’s innings came when he dispatched Alzarri Joseph for a one-handed six inside-out, demonstrating his full range of strokes. His 20-ball half-century was a testament to his aggressive intent, but his dismissal via a leading edge off Delano Potgieter’s slower delivery proved crucial.
Jangoo provided steady support throughout, contributing a patient 56 off 43 balls before falling to a miscued reverse-sweep. Fabian Allen’s late cameo of 38 from 17 balls helped push the total beyond 200, giving the Falcons hope of defending what appeared to be a competitive score.
However, the Kings’ response was immediate and devastating. Seifert announced his intentions by flat-batting the first legal delivery of the chase for six over long-off, setting the tone for what would become a record-breaking powerplay performance.
The opening partnership plundered 92 runs in the first six overs – the highest powerplay score of the season and third-best in CPL history. Despite losing Johnson Charles early to Salman Irshad, Seifert continued his onslaught with support from Akeem Auguste.
Seifert’s century, completed with a single after back-to-back sixes off Usama Mir, came off just 53 balls, tying the CPL record. His final score of 125* represents the highest individual total of the 2025 season and the second-highest in CPL history.
The comprehensive nature of the defeat – with 13 balls to spare and six wickets in hand – highlighted the gulf in execution between the two teams on the night, leaving the Falcons to regroup quickly as they look to arrest their slide in the tournament standings.

Shakib was on fire! That 26-ball 61 was pure class. Shame the rest of the team couldn’t hold it together.
Seifert tying Andre Russell’s fastest CPL century record in style! CPL fans are going to be talking about this one for a long time.
What are we gonna do about dem falcons. Sighhh. So much is invested into them
Disappointed in the loss but proud of Shakib’s effort
