Head of Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Griffin Benjamin, has been placed on leave
Less than a year after his appointment as head of Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Griffin Benjamin has been placed on administrative leave by the Minister of Health, Molwyn Joseph.
Sources indicate that tensions had been building between the two men over recent months, with disagreements on several health-related matters. The decision to place Dr. Benjamin on leave with pay reportedly followed his alleged refusal to provide the Minister with a report regarding the admission of a medical student, as well as a full medical report on the matter.
The case in question involves a student from the American University of Antigua (AUA) who was reportedly confined at Clarevue Hospital from August 15 to 27. The student’s family submitted a formal complaint alleging mistreatment, prompting the Ministry of Health to launch an official investigation.
Dr. Benjamin, a highly respected psychiatrist from Dominica, was recruited by the Antiguan government for this key role, bringing years of experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in his home country. He also has prior experience working in Antigua and maintains a private office in St. John’s. In addition, he provides psychiatric and mental health services to students at the Ross University School of Medicine in Barbados.
Officials have not yet indicated how long Dr. Benjamin’s administrative leave will last, and no further comment has been provided regarding the ongoing investigation.

You cane up againt Molwyn? A man full of pride. He will definitely make your life miserable. Nobody likes Molwyn.
I agree and that is allllll bcz he wants to have the last say
Molwyn himself needs to be admitted to Clarevue. What a pompous man. Dr Benjamin you just get yourself a damn good lawyer
Dr Benjamin needs to be replaced by an Antiguan. He has no interest in our people’s health
My anger issues will not allow me to say what I really wanted to say….but this one question tho, is it about ANU/ DA or is it about health?
Is Molwin an Antiguan, and does he care about Antiguan’s health issues?
I hear you like Antiguans are Dunce so they cant or capable of doing anything
When they come house car travelling.all kind of special treatment but not us…it need too stop ..we can do our own thing …its our Country we Build it
LOL Okidoki…So let me Minister Molwyn Joseph’s handling of the Clarevue Hospital matter raises serious concerns about his judgment and leadership. Placing Dr. Griffin Benjamin a highly experienced and respected psychiatrist on administrative leave less than a year into his tenure, reportedly over the refusal to submit reports, suggests an overreach that undermines professional autonomy. But thats the way it is in the field yes. Believe me we know
Similar actions of carrying out investigations with doctors at SLBMC. Patients have been left traumatized after surgeries etc.
When hospital does anything to citizen Joseph says nothing, but when American rude, out of control disrespectful drug using children comes to foreign countries, rejected by universities and parents, will hit workers Mr. Joseph wants to finish a respectable man career, his health department need a overhaul beginning with supplies and proper staffing please stop.
He is on leaf and still being paid that is not doing anything to him.
Bunch of mad people running a mad hospital
Im sure you all recognize that Antiguans dont like foriegners in their place running the show. But foriegners run yall ports, media houses, ministries, barbershops and everywhere else. Make out
Lateefa George died while she was a patient at Clarevue Hospital.
Was anyone repremanded? Was a independent investigation and report done? Was the public made awy are of the details surrounding her death?
There has been allegations of instances of rape at Clarevue, was there any nvestigation into the allegations?
The situations that have occured at the SLBMC also continue to get worse. People continue to complain of the lack of proper medical treatments and services available to them. The staff is disgruntled due to unsatisfactory working conditions and lack of tools necessary to properly carry out their duties.
Sir Molwyn Joseph it appears to be that you lack the ability to effectively manage your portfolio as Minister of Health.
Maybe you should consider stepping down and allowing a more suitable person to take over.
On the other hand you probably are afraid to go in pension and be treated like the other pensioners in this country.
Molwyn feels that he is entitled, because is he host fire and steel show that brought Gaston and ALP to power.
So he can do as he likes because deep inside he feels he should be the prime minister.
Molwyn suffers from entitlement.
The Minister may not have legal right to a report on a patient. Did the Minister sign the contract of the Dr.? Can he legally put him on administrative leave? Generally, a Minister has neither technical or administrative responsibility in technical units like Clarevue. The Government has investigation procedures and protocols. These likely don’t involve the Minister/Politician.
Sometimes these ‘leaves’ are just ways to quietly manage scandals. Let’s see what unfolds.
