The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) marked its 44th year of service with a sophisticated Black Bow Tie Formal Cocktail Reception at Camp Blizzard on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

The celebration drew military officers, government dignitaries, and invited guests for an evening of cultural showcases and ceremonial tributes. The programme featured live pan music, a fire performance, and a multimedia presentation highlighting the ABDF’s evolution since its establishment in 1981.

Governor General and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, praised the Force for its consistent national service. He pointed to their cooperation with the Royal Police Force in security operations and their recent contribution in refurbishing the Government House perimeter wall.

Sir Rodney also delivered apologies on behalf of Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who is overseas attending the 2nd Africa-CARICOM Summit in Ethiopia. The summit, themed “Transcontinental Partnership in Pursuit of Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” builds on commitments to strengthen links between the Caribbean and the African continent.

Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, reflected on the ABDF’s accomplishments over its 44 years and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to continued growth and national service.
