Antigua and Barbuda made history today as the nation observed its first-ever National Day of Prayer, marked as a public holiday. The initiative, hailed as unprecedented in the Eastern Caribbean, was warmly commended by Bishop Charlesworth Browne of the Christian Ministries Center.
Bishop Browne praised Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin, and the Cabinet for what he described as an “epoch-making initiative” that placed the nation firmly under divine covering. He noted that this bold step reflects both vision and leadership, creating space for national reflection, spiritual unity, and thanksgiving.
The day was observed with church services, prayer gatherings, and moments of national reflection, underscoring the government’s call for citizens to set aside time for collective devotion and supplication.
“This historic moment belongs to God,” Bishop Browne emphasized, urging the public to remain mindful of the power of prayer in shaping the country’s destiny. He added that Antigua and Barbuda now stands as an example to the wider region of how faith and governance can harmoniously work together.
As the nation moves forward under this new annual observance, Bishop Browne expressed confidence that the benefits will be far-reaching, declaring: “All the glory belongs to Him, indeed, God did it.”
