The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has announced plans to install a new surveillance system across the island in a bid to tackle rising crime.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed that negotiations with providers have been ongoing for several weeks and are now nearing completion.
In the first phase of the project, approximately 200 surveillance systems will be installed at strategic locations.
The move comes as the nation grapples with a recent surge in criminal activity. On Friday, prominent businessman George “Charlie” Barnes was shot and killed outside his home in Ottos Newtown, sending shockwaves through the community. Just weeks earlier, another businessman was held at gunpoint, and police have also reported multiple cases of theft and violent attacks in recent months.
Browne said the surveillance initiative will enhance law enforcement’s ability to deter crime, improve response times, and strengthen investigations.
The government is expected to officially finalize the deal soon, clearing the way for installation to begin.

This is silly, atleast the article was good
We have consistently heard this bs for the last 20 years ALP before, UPP after and now ABLP. SORRY, bit now seeing will be the truth. Words without works are DEAD.
Tap lie so early in the morning.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only son and whosoever believe will not perish but have everlasting life. Who ever obeys God will not live in fear and their land will prosper. Time for leaders to check demselves
At least they are trying. Give them a thumbs up for that. But most people homes have cameras and these brazen thieves dont give a shyte. They cover their faces and do their thing without fear. Chances are they will rise at midnight and smash these camera’s. We are dealing with a new breed of monesters.
They said that before. Two years ago. So why now they making it sound brand new. Stop saying and just do. Damn it man
We need to stand in Antigua, people won’t care until it’s one of their family member.Crime will never stop in this country unless we demand safer measures
Everyone is looking to the government and the police to solve their issues. People better look to God
200 cameras isn’t enough if the police don’t respond quickly, but it’s a start
on point!
Better late than never. Every tool counts in keeping people safe.
At this point, we have to try something. If cameras help solve even one murder or stop one armed robbery, then it’s worth it. Let’s hope this is followed by more community-based crime fighting as well.
Ithink wen u thief u get long jail wen u kill no road then sentence too light
The government should get solar powered streetlight with camera combination out of china to replace all existing streetlights system and help the police and government solve crime
