The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Antigua and Barbuda, H.E. Zhang Yanling, has underscored China’s remarkable progress and the deepening bonds of friendship between the two nations, as he addressed a gathering to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
In her remarks, Ambassador Zhang expressed gratitude to longstanding friends and partners who continue to support China’s development and strengthen cooperation with Antigua and Barbuda.
“What happened 76 years ago on October 1st was a milestone in the history of the Chinese nation,” he said. “It marked the beginning of a new era where the destiny of China would be determined by the Chinese people.”
She highlighted the strides made under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, citing rapid economic growth, sustained social stability, and improvements in living standards. Among the achievements noted were advances in education, medical care, and elderly care, as well as the increase in average life expectancy from 35 years in 1949 to 79 years today.
Ambassador Zhang also pointed to the transformative role of technology, which has been reshaping industries and improving the convenience, efficiency, and inclusiveness of public services.
Reaffirming Beijing’s commitment to peaceful development, he emphasized China’s ongoing partnerships, including with Antigua and Barbuda, in contributing to global progress.
“While sticking to its peaceful development pathway, China continues to work closely with Antigua and Barbuda and other partners to play a responsible role for the betterment of the world,” Zhang said.
The anniversary celebration was marked by reflection on China’s past, recognition of its present achievements, and optimism for future cooperation with its Caribbean partner.
