Antigua and Barbuda’s Daniel Antonio made a strong impression on the opening day of the 46th World Armwrestling Championships in Albena, Bulgaria, claiming sixth place in the Youth Men 100kg Right Arm division.
Antonio’s performance at the p international competition showcased the growing strength of Caribbean armwrestling, as he competed against elite athletes from across the globe.
The Antiguan competitor demonstrated his skill by securing one victory with his left arm during the tournament’s first day.
Antonio’s sixth-place result puts him among the world’s best young arm wrestlers in his weight class, competing alongside representatives from traditional arm-wrestling powerhouses including Georgia, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Italy, Ukraine, Romania, and France.
The championship results show the depth of international talent in the sport, with Georgia’s Tutberidze Avtandil claiming the top spot, followed by Kazakhstan’s Kassimov Toirat in second place and Bulgaria’s Rashev Ivo rounding out the podium in third.
Antonio’s performance continues Antigua and Barbuda’s participation in international arm-wrestling competitions, representing the twin-island nation on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

Congratulations. You did well. Be proud of yourself
Imagine what he could do with more training support and sponsorship. Government need to step up for athletes like him.
Proud moment for Antigua and Barbuda. We don’t always get recognition in sports outside cricket and athletics, so this is refreshing
