Family and Supporters to Picket Police Headquarters Over Khaleel Simon Shooting

The family of Khaleel Simon, along with concerned residents, will stage a picket outside Police Headquarters on American Road at 3 p.m. today, calling for justice in the young man’s fatal shooting by police in Bolans.

The demonstration was originally scheduled for last Friday but was postponed due to bad weather. Despite the delay, a small group of residents still turned up with placards, signallingtheir determination to keep the issue in the public eye.

Simon, a 20-year-old resident of Bolans, was shot and killed by police several weeks ago under circumstances his relatives say were unjust. Family members allege that the officer involved fired without giving him a chance to surrender, describing the incident as excessive use of force.

His death has since ignited debate about police accountability and the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Family, friends, neighbours, and youth advocates in Bolans and nearby villages have expressed growing unease. Some say they no longer feel safe in encounters with the police, while others warn that such incidents, if unchecked, could erode public trust and fuel unrest.

Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers has confirmed that the incident is under investigation. He assured the public that the matter is being taken seriously and that all facts will be carefully reviewed before any conclusions are reached.

For Simon’s family, however, patience is running thin. They insist that the officer responsible must face consequences and are urging authorities to move swiftly.

Today’s picket is expected to draw a larger turnout as supporters rally around the family in their call for justice.

  4. We stand with the Simons. Too many times police overstep, and nothing comes out of it. This time the people must not stay quiet.
