Acting PM Sir Steadroy Benjamin, and Port Manager Darwin Telemaque among others
Acting Prime Minister Steadroy Benjamin paid a special visit to the Antigua Port Authority today to view the arrival of the port’s newest and most significant asset a state-of-the-art crane that is expected to transform cargo operations and strengthen the facility’s role in regional logistics.
Accompanied by senior officials and key partners, including representatives from Tropical Shipping, the port’s largest customer, the Acting Prime Minister’s presence underscored the government’s commitment to the strategic development of the nation’s maritime infrastructure.
Among those present were Dale Phillips, Deputy Terminal Manager; Janelle Benjamin, Accountant; Tamara Lowe James, Island Manager of Tropical Shipping; and Port Manager Darwin Telemaque.
“The arrival of this crane is further proof of our mission to position the Antigua Port Authority as a major logistics and transport hub within the region,” Telemaque told Antigua.news.
He added that the Acting Prime Minister’s visit was a strong show of confidence in the leadership of the Authority and a motivating gesture for staff and partners alike.
Port officials describe the new crane as the most significant addition to the facility in recent years, expected to boost efficiency, increase capacity, and improve competitiveness in the regional shipping sector.
“This momentous occasion marks a new chapter for the Port,” Telemaque said. “The government’s visible support will no doubt yield even greater outcomes as we continue our journey of modernization and growth.”

I really hope this will make the job faster and easier and people will get their goods in record time
This is a good thing. Better and faster process.
This is a huge step forward for Antigua’s port operations. Modern equipment like this will really help us compete regionally
Good news, but let’s make sure maintenance and training keep pace with the investment. A crane is only as good as the team running it
Better port efficiency means lower costs and faster delivery for the public everyone benefits.

Every container unloaded faster means savings for businesses and consumers across Antigua and Barbuda.
When you talk about modernization, this is what it looks like, concrete steps, not just plans on paper.
Finally! A crane of this scale will cut waiting times for shipping and improve overall efficiency.
Love the recognition of the staff and partners. A motivated workforce is just as important as the new technology
