Prime Minister Gaston Browne Addresses UN

Antigua and Barbuda has once again thrown its weight behind calls for a peaceful two-state solution in the Middle East, with Prime Minister Gaston Browne telling a UN conference that Palestinians have waited “far too long” for the dignity and security that self-determination brings.

Browne was speaking at the High-level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, held at United Nations headquarters on Monday. He said the gathering was an important step in rekindling international momentum toward resolving the decades-long conflict.

“The people of Palestine have waited far too long for the dignity, peace, and security that self-determination affords,” Browne said. “Antigua and Barbuda stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and joins the international community in calling for urgent, good-faith negotiations to realize two states, living side by side in peace.”

He urged all parties to show “courage, restraint, and a spirit of compromise,” insisting that peace remains the only viable option. Antigua and Barbuda, he added, will continue to support multilateral initiatives that push for a negotiated settlement in line with international law and that guarantee the rights and security of both Palestinians and Israelis.

  2. Small nations like Antigua and Barbuda may not have military might, but their moral voice at the UN matters. Browne is right, the world can’t keep ignoring Palestine’s cry for justice.

  3. Antigua and Barbuda may be a small state, but this is a reminder that every nation has a role to play in pushing for peace.

  6. You see when loud mouth gets Infront of white power them become ambiguous? Gaston can’t say clearly Palestine having a genocide committed against it because he is afraid his visa is revoked and he has property’s in the USA, Ron saunders done give Gaston the operative friendly media language of the CNN and Fox News in the USA to use there on that platform to tip toe around ethno supremacists ideology of the white nations that sees Palestinians as monkeys and animals as they called us as black slave to this day. A only in a Antigua on Gaston radio station he have chat, he is judge jury and executioner on his radio station roaring like a lion, but on the international platform microphone we hearing a cat meowing. When we elect leaders we should elect people that don’t have any conflict of interest as far as having business or property in foreign countries that will compromise the wishes or ideology of the people who sent them to these forums.

  8. I did not hear the speech.

Was anything said about what took place on Saturday 7th October 2023?

Was anything said of the ‘genocide’ that took place on that day?

Was it said that what is being ‘reaped’ today was brought about as a result of what took place on that day?

    I am just wondering.

  9. While Antigua and Barbuda’s call for peace is commendable, the reality is that Israel has always been willing to negotiate, but its security must come first. No country can be expected to compromise on the safety of its citizens.

  10. Solidarity should be balanced supporting Palestinians’ aspirations is fine, but the world must also respect Israel’s struggle for survival in a very hostile neighborhood.

  11. I support Antigua’s push for dialogue, but let’s be clear: Israel is the only democracy in the region, and it has the right to defend itself. Peace will only come when Palestinians recognize Israel’s right to exist

  12. Two states sound good in theory, but only if the Palestinian side can guarantee that Israel won’t face constant threats. Until then, Israel must remain strong and secure

  13. It’s disappointing to hear leaders still blaming Israel when the real obstacle to peace has always been Palestinian leadership refusing to recognize Israel’s right to exist

  14. The conflict is complex, but supporting a two-state solution shows Antigua and Barbuda is committed to fairness and diplomacy.
