Prime Minister Gaston Browne

Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne spent time at UNGA80 building bridges with world leaders and institutions, advancing diplomacy on issues ranging from climate finance to trade and cultural exchange.

In meetings with Venezuela, Browne reaffirmed ties through Petrocaribe, ALBA, and cultural cooperation, while acknowledging Antigua’s constructive role in the recent U.S.–Venezuela prisoner swap.

Talks with Austria’s Chancellor Christian Stocker focused on Vienna’s UN Security Council bid and the possibility of a CARICOM office in Austria.

At the Green Climate Fund, Browne demanded that more resources flow directly to small island states, confirming Antigua’s intention to submit climate-resilient housing projects under Enhanced Direct Access. Meanwhile, discussions with Botswana’s President Duma Boko explored avenues for trade and investment beyond diamonds.

The day concluded with Browne joining a working lunch with Palau and Germany, focused on global climate governance and preparations for COP30.
