Antigua and Barbuda brought its culture and spirit to the global stage this week, celebrating its National Day at World Expo 2025 in Osaka with a flag-raising ceremony and a vibrant cultural showcase.

Under the theme “Wadadli, Wa’Omoni – The Pearls of the Caribbean,” the celebration on September 28 highlighted the nation’s heritage through music, dance, and storytelling. Steelpan maestro Khan Cordice, Soca Monarch Tian Winter, and the Antigua and Barbuda Cultural Group, led by choreographer Thyana Sebastian, delivered a performance that blended African-inspired rhythms, Carnival energy, and traditional artistry.

The official delegation was led by Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene, who underscored the importance of Antigua and Barbuda’s presence at the Expo.

“This Expo, under the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives,’ aligns perfectly with our national ethos,” said Minister Greene. “Our pavilion, themed ‘Saving Lives,’ showcases our dedication to environmental preservation, socio-cultural richness, and economic innovation. As we celebrate Antigua and Barbuda’s National Day, let us remember that we are all connected by a shared dream: a future of peace, sustainability, and mutual respect.”

Speaking on behalf of the Japanese government, Ito Yoshitaka, Minister in charge of World Expo 2025, reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Antigua and Barbuda and emphasized shared values of peace and sustainability.

Since opening its pavilion in April, Antigua and Barbuda has welcomed close to one million visitors, a figure officials describe as proof of growing international interest in the country’s history and culture.

Commissioner General Javier Jacobs of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority said the occasion marked more than just cultural celebration.

“Our participation at Expo 2025 is not only about showcasing our heritage and creativity but heavily focusing on strengthening international friendships and opening doors to new opportunities for cultural exchange, investment and partnership towards sustainable initiatives and tourism growth for mutual benefit,” Jacobs said.

World Expo 2025 continues in Osaka until October 13, drawing participants and visitors from across the globe under the theme of building a sustainable and inclusive future.
