Dr. Mareba M. Scott
The Environmental Awareness Group (EAG), Antigua and Barbuda’s oldest and most prominent environmental NGO, has appointed Dr. Mareba M. Scott as its new Executive Director.
Founded in 1989, the EAG has built a global reputation for conservation excellence, most notably for its award-winning restoration of Redonda, once a barren, eroded rock and now a thriving wildlife sanctuary. The project is widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest island restoration success stories.
Dr. Scott, a sustainability leader with more than 20 years of experience in environmental stewardship, climate resilience, and programme management, will take the helm as the organization enters a new chapter. She has pledged to expand the EAG’s international partnerships, strengthen its fundraising efforts, and secure resources to scale up transformative projects for both people and wildlife.
“The EAG has an unparalleled reputation for conservation excellence,” Dr. Scott said. “I am deeply honoured to lead this incredible organisation as we build on its legacy of impact. My vision is to grow our global partnerships and ensure the EAG has the resources to deliver lasting change.”
The EAG’s Board of Directors welcomed her appointment with confidence. Board President Jermaine Jarvis praised her track record of mobilizing resources and engaging stakeholders, saying, “Dr. Scott brings not only deep sustainability expertise and leadership but also a proven ability to strengthen partnerships. Under her leadership, we are confident the EAG will expand its reach and deepen its impact across the region.”
Dr. Scott’s career includes service as a Director on the Board of the CARICOM Climate Change Centre, a Governing Council Member of the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism, and Co-Chair of the Caribbean Blue Flag Programme. She has managed multi-million-dollar projects across tourism, disaster risk management, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation while fostering high-level donor relationships.
As Executive Director, she will oversee the EAG’s six core areas: strategic management, human resources, fundraising, partnerships and donor relations, operations and finance, and technical programme oversight. Collaboration will remain central to the group’s work, with continued partnerships involving government, donors, NGOs, communities, educators, and the wider public.
The EAG reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Antigua and Barbuda’s natural heritage and expressed optimism about the future. With Dr. Scott’s leadership, the organization aims to scale its conservation successes, empower local communities, and promote sustainable livelihoods rooted in science and nature-based solutions.

I am sure she will do an exceptionally good job. The EAG plays a crucial role in our conservation
