Antigua and Barbuda’s poultry sector received a major boost this week when a technical team from Hi-Pro Feeds visited the island to share best practices with local farmers.
The delegation, which included Brand Performance and Analytics Manager Dayne Patterson and Dr. Mordecai Tulloch, Manager of Jamaica Egg Services and senior layer specialist veterinarian, toured several farms on Thursday before hosting an information session at the Multipurpose Centre. The visit was coordinated by Allan Osborne, local farmer and distributor of Hi-Pro Feeds.
For years, Dr. Tulloch has supported Antigua’s farmers remotely through phone consultations, but this marked the first time he provided in-person training. Osborne described the moment as “historic,” saying farmers were fortunate to benefit from Dr. Tulloch’s knowledge and practical expertise firsthand.

Patterson gave an overview of the Jamaica Broilers Group, Hi-Pro’s parent company, while Dr. Tulloch focused on layer production. His presentation, which included video demonstrations, highlighted coop construction and sanitization, proper feeding and watering systems, lighting requirements, and effective management strategies for poultry farms.
Osborne said the event underscored Hi-Pro’s commitment to technical support as part of its service package. Farmers attending the session described it as both informative and interactive, with immediate takeaways for their operations.
The Ministry of Agriculture welcomed the initiative, reaffirming its commitment to partnerships that promote sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and food security in Antigua and Barbuda.

This is great news for us small farmers Sometimes we just need a little technical guidance to get our operations more efficient. Glad to see real support coming to the ground.k
Finally Some motivation for young people like me who want to get into farming. Training and support like this can make a big difference.
I long to eat local foul that don’t eat shit around the yard
It’s encouraging to see Hi-Pro Feeds providing hands-on support. This complements the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen local poultry production and food security.
