Dominican Consul Geneal Joaquín Díaz López mourns tragic loss of Michael Alexander Garcia
The Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Antigua and Barbuda has expressed deep sorrow following the death of 23-year-old Michael Alexander Garcia, a Dominican national who died in a tragic workplace accident on Saturday.
Garcia, a farm worker and father of a three-year-old, reportedly fell from the roof of a building on a farm in the Diamond Estate area near Potworks Dam around 4:30 p.m. He sustained severe head injuries and was found by Emergency Medical Services personnel lying in a pool of blood.
Despite the best efforts of Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians and further medical intervention at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, Garcia was later pronounced dead.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the Consulate General, led by Hon. Joaquín Díaz López, said it “deeply regrets the tragic passing of a young Dominican national that occurred this Saturday in the Blackout area.”
The Consul has instructed Huascar Félix, Director of the Consular Cabinet, to coordinate directly with local authorities and ensure that the victim’s family receives the necessary support and assistance.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones and to the Dominican community in Antigua and Barbuda during this difficult time,” the statement read.
The Consulate’s message has resonated deeply within Antigua and Barbuda’s growing Hispanic community, many of whom gathered outside the hospital on Saturday evening to mourn Garcia’s untimely passing.
Meanwhile, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall as tributes continue to pour in for the young worker remembered as hardworking, kind, and well-liked by his peers.
