Antigua and Barbuda’s thriving marine industry will take the spotlight this week as the Antigua and Barbuda Yachting and Marine Association (ABYMA) hosts its Discover Yachting & Marine Industry Expo on October 8th and 9th at the Antigua Yacht Club and Marina.
Far more than a traditional showcase, the two-day event is designed to inspire curiosity, ignite ambition, and reveal the vast career possibilities that exist within the marine and yachting sector — an industry that continues to anchor the nation’s economy and global reputation.
With more than 20 businesses and organizations participating, the Expo will feature hands-on exhibits, demonstrations, and networking opportunities.
Students, recent graduates, and professionals looking to transfer their skills into the marine sector will be able to explore careers ranging from boatbuilding, rigging, and electronics to administration, event management, and marketing.
ABYMA President Franklin Braithwaite said the event aims to reshape the way people view the marine industry.
“We want to change the perception that a career in this sector means leaving Antigua and Barbuda,” Braithwaite explained. “Many rewarding roles exist right here at home — in workshops, marinas, and offices. Whether you’re skilled in woodworking, plumbing, electrical work, or logistics, there’s a place for you in this industry.”
Attendees will have the chance to connect with experienced professionals, gain valuable career advice, and even explore current job openings and seasonal opportunities within ABYMA member companies. For many, the Expo could serve as the first step toward a lifelong career on or around the water.
ABYMA emphasized that the event is free and open to the public, with restaurants and bars at the Yacht Club and Marina open throughout the two days. Visitors are encouraged to come, browse exhibits, and enjoy the atmosphere while networking with industry leaders.
The Discover Yachting & Marine Expo promises to be a celebration of skill, opportunity, and local pride charting a new course for those ready to dive into the world of maritime careers.

Hope the turnout is good all the best
