As of 2 p.m., Tropical Storm Jerry has resumed a west-northwest motion, a track that forecasters say should carry its centre just north of Barbuda.
While this shift offers some relief for Antigua and Barbuda, meteorologists are cautioning that the system remains close enough to warrant continued vigilance.
According to the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service, most of the storm’s strongest winds and heavy rainfall are displaced to the east of the centre keeping the worst conditions away from the twin-island nation for now.
However, tropical storm watches and warnings remain in effect as the storm’s outer bands could still bring gusty winds, showers, and rough seas.
The latest forecast data suggest that Jerry’s centre will pass north of the Leeward Islands later tonight into early Friday, sparing Antigua and Barbuda from a direct impact.
Still, the public is being urged not to let their guard down.
Officials from the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) are advising residents, particularly those in low-lying and coastal areas, to remain alert for sudden changes in weather conditions and to stay updated through official channels.
