Hezekiah Parker Jr. has been fined $10,000 for possession of cannabis.

On Monday, he was given one year to pay the fine, with the alternative of serving one year imprisonment if he defaults on the payment.

The charges stem from Parker’s arrest on June 1, when police executed a search warrant at his residence. During the search, officers discovered 127 grams of cannabis valued at $1,270, along with cash found on the premises.

Parker was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the findings. He has remained on bail since his initial arrest and charging.

Parker entered his guilty plea before the Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel last month.

  5. $10,000 for a little weed? That’s steep. Feels like we’re still punishing people too harshly for something the rest of the world is learning to regulate instead of criminalize.
