Parham resident Claudette Willock has officially moved into her newly rebuilt home, nearly two years after a fire destroyed her previous house in January 2023.

The reconstruction was funded under the HAPI Program and completed through a collaborative effort between the Social Protection Board and the Ministry of Social and Urban Development.

MP for St. Peter, Rawdon Turner, who made a commitment to assist Willock after the tragedy, said he was “deeply satisfied” to see the project completed.

“When she lost her home, I immediately called the prime minister, who promised to have the funds approved under the HAPI Program”, Turner told Antigua.news.

“This is what representation is about, helping people rebuild their lives when they feel they’ve lost everything. Today, seeing her move back into her home is truly fulfilling,” he said.

Turner also praised the HAPI Programme and the Social Protection Board for their support, noting that “partnerships like these show how government can directly change lives when the right systems are in place.”

During the handover ceremony, Willock expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who helped make the rebuilding possible.

She thanked Minister Turner for standing by his promise, describing the moment as “a blessing and a promise kept.”

To mark the occasion, a breadfruit tree was planted in the front yard — a symbol, Turner said, of “growth, renewal, and the strength of the people of Parham.”
