The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) is encouraging persons once again who have not replaced their voters ID Cards to do so.
Presently only 16000 of the 40,000-voter population have completed the process.
ABEC’s Public Relations Officer Elisa Graham made the call.
“As we know, there was no deadline given. So, persons, you know, are still taking their time. We know how we are when it comes to our documents and replacements.
Only when we actually need it, we’ll actually come forward but as usual, I take the opportunity to encourage those of you who are yet to replace your voters’ ID card once it’s expired to do so as soon as you possibly can.
“Right now, all of the registration units, there’s no line. You literally take approximately two to three minutes right now to replace your card and because we are now printing cards every single week, you can actually get your card within a week,” Graham said.
The Expired Voter’s ID Card Replacement Programme began on August 12th 2024, in all 17 constituencies.
As part of the process, eligible voters are asked to walk with their expired Voter’s ID card, a valid government issued ID, a proof of address and any documents updating their marital status.
Cards will be updated with a new photo, signature, validated with fingerprints and will be available from the same Registration Unit within that week of an application.
The Commission emphasizes that the Voter’s Identification Card is a key document that confirms the eligibility to vote.
A valid Voter’s ID Card is crucial, not only for participating in elections but also for various transactions that require official identification at businesses and government departments.

Honestly, some people treat this like it’s optional.
It’s a simple thing but so many people ignore it. Voting is a right make sure you’re ready when the time comes.
