Rosewood Resort Developers Advance US$5 Million for Construction of New Barbuda Port

Developers of the highly anticipated Rosewood Resort in Barbuda have advanced US$5 million to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to support the construction of a new port facility on the sister island.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced in Parliament on Thursday, explaining that the project, initially delayed due to brand concerns, has now regained momentum.

According to Browne, the Rosewood developers expressed reluctance to have their luxury resort positioned beside the existing port facility.

“By now, the construction of the Rosewood Hotel should have started,” the Prime Minister told Parliament, “but unfortunately, they indicated they do not want their brand next to a port.”

As a result, the government has agreed to relocate the port, with the developers advancing the additional funds to ensure progress. The new port will be built along the same stretch where the current port is located, but farther from the luxury development site.

“All of the studies are being done,” Browne confirmed, “and as soon as they are completed, we will build a solid, sustainable port.”

The relocation forms part of a broader initiative to balance Barbuda’s tourism expansion with modern infrastructure development, ensuring that high-end projects like Rosewood coexist with the island’s economic and logistical needs.

The new port is expected to enhance Barbuda’s maritime capacity, accommodate increased visitor traffic, and strengthen the island’s ability to support both commercial and tourism-related operations.

  1. Merely casting pearls……. Some people, most of them, would prefer to remain in the dark ages. In that way, they can put forward, as they have been doing for generations, plausible, deceitful, hateful accusations of neglect by the Central Government, more specifically, the ABLP. They are, indeed, a unique species!
