WATCH: Government promises full disclosure on vehicle audit; merchant says findings will be made public

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has confirmed that the findings of a comprehensive audit into all government-owned vehicles will be made public once the review is completed.

Director of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Maurice Merchant, made the disclosure during Friday’s post-Cabinet press conference, emphasizing that the administration remains committed to transparency, accountability, and proper oversight of state resources.

The audit follows revelations of unauthorized vehicle purchases within several government departments, a situation that has triggered widespread public scrutiny and prompted the resignation and transfer of several senior officials.

Merchant explained that the investigation covers every government-owned and assigned vehicle, examining acquisition procedures, registration records, usage logs, and maintenance histories to determine whether proper procurement protocols were followed.
