
The government will move to recover funds and pursue restitution from at least two car dealership companies, which the prime minister said are linked to the unauthorized vehicle purchases that have rocked the administration and triggered a full-scale investigation.
Speaking on his weekly radio program, Browne said the scandal has revealed what he described as “endemic corruption” within parts of the public service, vowing that those responsible wills face criminal prosecution.
In one of his strongest warnings yet, Browne said his administration will now adopt a strict zero-tolerance policy toward corruption in the public sector.
He declared that once the investigation into the vehicle scandal is concluded, new measures will be introduced to criminally charge any public servant found to be stealing or misusing government resources.
The Prime Minister described the scandal as a wake-up call that exposed long-standing weaknesses in procurement oversight and internal controls across several ministries and statutory bodies.
