WATCH: PM defends his wife — “She never authorized any vehicle purchases”

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has come out firmly in defense of his wife, Maria Browne, Minister for Works, declaring that she never authorized the purchase of any of the vehicles now under investigation by the government.

The Prime Minister made the statement during his weekly radio program on Saturday, as controversy continues to swirl around the unauthorized acquisition of several high-end vehicles, allegedly procured in the government’s name without Cabinet approval.

In a response to public speculation, Browne dismissed any suggestion that his wife had a hand in the matter.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the controversy has raised questions about internal oversight, but stressed that his government is acting decisively to correct the issue and restore public confidence.

  1. A government that can not do something as simple as following the right procedures to purchased high end vehicles!!! Is who y’all call a leader!! Corruption in everything where Mr Browne is concern..

  2. Mr Brown the only thing that would restore public confidence is a independent public enquiry. What you going to investigate your wife and be objective? Yes right!
But despite being called the Big Dog, your not man enough to have a independent public enquiry.
This is fraud and conspiracy on a massive sale. People should should be charged and tried in court, not just shift government positons!!

    • I agree with you 100 percent, people must be held criminally accountable. I am tired of seeing government employees committing crimes breaking the law and nothing is done.
If Gaston brown can actually hold people responsible for this latest scandal, no matter who they are, then he would gain my respect….

  4. So if she didn’t authorize the purchases, who did? Somebody in government had to give the green light. That’s the part the public wants to hear.

  7. This stinks all the way to the top. This fool hastens to defend the biggest ghost worker in the history of Antigua and Barbuda and neglects the fact that HIS ministry is involved. 15 million, they say, left the treasury, authorizations came from someone in cabinet, and he thinks he’s squeaky clean? The man is as greedy and corrupt as they get.
Dawg, we don’t want you investigating anything. You’re too close to the corruption and collusion and nothing will ever come of it but cover ups.
You,your wife, the people in transport board, the accountant general, should follow Badu and resign pending an independent investigation.
