UPP calls town hall meeting to address “Vehicle Gate” controversy, demands independent investigation

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle

The United Progressive Party (UPP) has announced plans to host a public town hall meeting on Tuesday, October 21, at Freedom Hall on Lower Newgate Street, beginning at 7:00 p.m., to discuss what it describes as one of the most troubling corruption scandals in recent memory — the “Vehicle Gate” affair.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will focus on the growing controversy surrounding the alleged unauthorized purchase and transfer of government vehicles, and the party’s call for an independent investigation into the matter.

The party says the situation has far-reaching implications for governance and accountability in Antigua and Barbuda.

The Prime Minister’s own admission, the fallout from the scandal has already resulted in the resignation of Comptroller of Customs Raju Boddu and the transfer of senior officials within the Ministry of Public Works.

Prime Minister Browne revealed that officers from the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda and the Transport Board have been implicated.

The UPP likened the developing scandal to some of the nation’s most infamous cases.

  13. What we need is a message board to report the vehicle’s model, license plate- and a telephone number to call and inquire. Who will be the first to report a man or woman who stole from his countryman? Name and shame them!!
