APUA Halts Operations at Delaps Plant Over Water Quality Concerns

The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has paused operations at its Delaps Water Treatment Facility after detecting an issue that caused an unusual odour and discolouration in water supplied to some communities.

The utility company said the temporary shutdown was a precautionary measure taken to allow for a detailed investigation and corrective work at the plant.

In a statement on Wednesday, APUA explained that its team has since reviewed and adjusted treatment processes to ensure that water quality once again meets all required safety and regulatory standards.

While technicians continue to work at Delaps, affected communities will be temporarily supplied from alternative sources. APUA has warned that this adjustment could result in longer intervals between regular supply schedules as it manages demand across the network.

Residents who still experience odour, discolouration, or service interruptions are urged to contact the 24-hour Customer Service Centre at 211 for assistance.

APUA apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience and cooperation while efforts continue to restore full operations.

The Delaps facility, located on the island’s eastern side, is one of the country’s key treatment plants supplying households and businesses across several parishes.
