Residents across Antigua and Barbuda were jolted moments ago as tremors from a magnitude 5.2 earthquake rippled through the Eastern Caribbean.
According to regional seismic data, the quake struck at approximately 8:38 a.m., with its epicentre located 161 kilometres from Marigot, Dominica. The tremor affected several islands including Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Antigua and Barbuda.

In Antigua, the shaking was distinctly felt in St. John’s, Bolans, All Saints, and surrounding communities, lasting for nearly 45 seconds. Many residents reported feeling their furniture rattle and light fixtures sway.
“I was sitting having breakfast and suddenly the whole house started shaking,” one St. John’s resident told Antigua.News. “It went on for what felt like a full minute — I honestly thought it was stronger than usual.”
There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but authorities continue to monitor the region for aftershocks.
The Eastern Caribbean sits on the boundary of the Caribbean and North American tectonic plates, making it one of the most seismically active zones in the world.
This morning’s quake serves as a reminder of the region’s vulnerability — and the importance of preparedness.

It’s been over twenty years since I felt an earthquake until this morning, October27, 2027.

Scary moment for sure. Wishing safety and calm to everyone across Antigua and Barbuda.
Yeh it shook me out of bed immediately
Scary, but thank goodness it wasn’t stronger. Still, tremors like this are a wake-up call earthquake preparedness needs more attention.
