Update: Death Toll Rises to Three in St Elizabeth After Hurricane Melissa

The grim toll from Hurricane Melissa’s devastation in St Elizabeth has climbed to three, after police discovered additional bodies in the Black River area on Wednesday.

According to the Jamaican Gleaner, Head of the St Elizabeth Police, Superintendent Coleridge Minto, confirmed the development, noting that law enforcement officers remain on the scene as investigations continue.

The victims have not yet been identified, but the discovery underscores the severe impact of the Category 5 hurricane, which made landfall in the parish on Tuesday, battering communities with violent winds and flooding rains.

St Elizabeth was among the hardest-hit areas as Hurricane Melissa tore across Jamaica, leaving homes destroyed, roads impassable, and entire communities cut off by rising waters. Emergency crews have been working around the clock to restore access and assist residents trapped by floodwaters.
