Regional carrier LIAT Air has extended its sympathy and support to the people of Jamaica as they confront the widespread destruction left behind by Hurricane Melissa.
In a statement on Wednesday, the airline said it stands in solidarity with those affected and remains committed to assisting in the country’s recovery.
LIAT confirmed that it is ready to resume flights into Jamaica but is awaiting final clearance from the Jamaican authorities, who are carrying out a detailed assessment of the hurricane’s impact. The airline said it will restart operations as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
The company acknowledged that many passengers have been unable to travel since the storm’s passage and expressed appreciation for their patience. It said its priority is to restore service safely and responsibly, working closely with officials to ensure that all operations meet the necessary safety standards.
As part of its relief efforts, LIAT announced that once flights resume, passengers travelling to Jamaica will be allowed one free checked bag for one week. The airline said it recognises that many travellers will be carrying supplies for family and friends affected by the storm and hopes the initiative will ease some of the strain during this difficult period.
LIAT reaffirmed its commitment to the region, stating that it stands ready to assist in any way possible as Jamaica begins to rebuild.
Passengers are encouraged to check www.flyliatair.com for updates on flight schedules and service restoration.

Meanwhile we want to know why LIAT kept just cancelling flights last week. I heard a plane down
