Antigua and Barbuda Welcomes Independence Day Baby

1 November 2025 - 19:39

As Antigua and Barbuda celebrates its 44th Independence Anniversary under the theme “SOLID – STABLE – SOARING,” the nation has received a special gift: its first Independence Day baby this year.

Glenfield and Roleeka King-Henry welcomed a handsome baby boy at 5:35 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2025, at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. The healthy newborn weighed in at 6 lbs 12 oz, becoming the first child born today.

The birth adds a deeply personal celebration to a day already filled with patriotic significance.

For the King-Henry family, their son’s arrival on Independence Day creates a lifelong connection to the nation’s most important celebration.

The little one will forever share his birthday with the anniversary of Antigua and Barbuda’s independence in 1981.

The 44th Independence celebrations run from October 25 to November 3, 2025, featuring cultural events, parades, and festivities that showcase national pride and unity.

    • A welcme gift to the nation. Congrats to the parents. Let’s hope and pray that he will grow up to be a patriot indeed. Let’s hope that he will love his country more than any political party or politician, and that he will not be bought or sold by anyone for any price.

  3. Antigua is celebrating it 44years of Independence. Are we really independent I am asking the people to take a look around is it any better than 45 years ago.

Sure we say we are independent, but government is always begging or borrowing.( when a child leaves home they have to be able to survive on they own.)

We say Antigua has advance but advance in what?
More crimes, more politicians stealing the Countries money, children without respect for themselves or elders, most people in Antigua are without morality, empathy and most of all no manners.

We as Antiguans have lost what we call kindness. We have adopted all the bad things America has to offer.
Antigua roads are a disgrace, sure we have more cars now, but what has happened to all the money that were allocated for these roads.
The gutters and drainage are a disgrace. I ask you again should we be proud of 44 years of Independence and what we seeing?
