APUA Sends Team to Jamaica to Aid Hurricane Recovery Efforts
The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has deployed a skilled team of electricity workers to Jamaica to assist with power restoration and rebuilding efforts in the wake of Hurricane Melissa.
Led by Supervisor Kelvin Tanner and Foreman Sean Spencer, the team includes Lineworkers Wamani Grayman, Jamany Anthony, and Shoy Matthew. They will spend at least a month on assignment, lending technical expertise to support the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) in restoring electricity and helping communities recover from the storm’s devastation
The deployment is part of the CARILEC Disaster Assistance Programme, which coordinates member utilities and regional contractors across the Caribbean to deliver hands-on support in the aftermath of major natural disasters.
Electricity Business Unit Manager Andre Matthias commended the workers for their commitment and professionalism, reminding them to uphold APUA’s standards of safety and excellence.
“We deeply appreciate our team’s readiness to assist our regional counterparts in this critical time,” Matthias said. “As they represent APUA and Antigua and Barbuda, I urge them to keep safety as their highest priority and to apply the best practices and techniques acquired through their training.”
APUA expressed gratitude to the departing team, describing their efforts as a reflection of the Authority’s core values of unity, resilience, and excellence in service.
