Antigua Slams False Travel Advisory Report — “We Remain One of the Caribbean’s Safest Destinations”

Sir Ronald Sanders

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has pushed back strongly against a false report published by Travel and Tour World that suggested Canada had raised its travel risk level for the twin-island nation.

Officials say the claim is “completely untrue.” In fact, Canada’s official advisory remains at its lowest rating — “Take normal security precautions” — and hasn’t changed.

Government representatives were quick to defend the country’s reputation, describing Antigua and Barbuda as a peaceful democracy where citizens live freely and visitors enjoy safety and stability.

“Antigua and Barbuda is politically stable, constitutionally grounded, and proud of its record of safety,” the statement said. “Violent incidents are rare, and our crime rate remains far below the Caribbean average.”

Non-resident High Commissioner Sir Ronald Sanders called on Travel and Tour World to correct its misleading article, warning that such misinformation undermines the credibility of legitimate media and affects tourism-dependent economies.

“We welcome Canadians as friends, investors, and family,” Sir Ronald added. “Many visit year after year — some even make Antigua their second home. That says more about our safety than any false headline ever could.”

Antigua and Barbuda, one of the region’s top travel destinations, continues to attract thousands of visitors from North America, Europe, and the wider Caribbean each year — and officials say that reputation for warmth and security “remains as strong as ever.”

    • Safest ?? No. Welcoming?? yes. Tourism might be safe, but locals live a different reality , constant reports of robberies and violence tell another story.

    • KEEP FOOLING YOURSELVES! It was once safe, not anymore! We’ve had visitors robbed, murdered, and assaulted. How soon we forget!! Tell yourselves whatever you need to, and keep burying your heads in the literal and proverbial, sand! We have an abundance of sand, after all!! The inconvenient, and incontrovertible truth is that, IT IS NO LONGER SAFE HERE, FOR NATIONALS, NOR VISITORS!!!
