Shenika Baptiste

The Office of the Coroner has opened an inquest into the death of 25-year-old Shenika Baptiste.

The session, presided over by Coroner Dexter Wason, began around 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday at Barnes Funeral Home, where the deceased was formally identified by a close relative before a seven-member jury.

The proceedings were later adjourned sine die, meaning a future date will be announced when additional information becomes available.

Senior officers from the Royal Police Force were informed of the coroner’s actions as part of the official investigation.

Baptiste was admitted to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center for a routine Caesarean section. She tragically passed away shortly after being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, leaving loved ones questioning how a healthy young mother could die in the prime of her life.

Her family is now demanding accountability and considering legal action as they seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding her untimely death.

  9. Twenty-four is far too young for any family to be facing an inquest. I’m glad the coroner is moving forward, because clarity is the only thing that can bring even a fraction of peace to the people left behind. Whatever the findings, the process needs to be thorough, transparent, and handled with genuine respect for Shenika’s loved ones.
