His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams

Antigua and Barbuda has entered the next quarter century with what the Government calls one of the strongest economic performances in the region.

Delivering the 2026 Speech from the Throne, Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams announced that the nation’s Gross Domestic Product had grown from US $802 million in 2000 to more than US $2 billion in 2025, representing over 300 percent growth.

Calling the achievement “remarkable,” Sir Rodney noted that this progress occurred despite challenges such as hurricanes, droughts, a global financial crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He credited workers, entrepreneurs, foreign investors, and policymakers for positioning the nation as “one of the most prosperous and productive in the Caribbean.”

According to Sir Rodney, the country now ranks 53rd on the UN Human Development Index, ahead of all other Caribbean states.

Average income stands above EC$60,000, and the Government attributes this growth to a mix of foreign direct investment, improved education access, and political stability.

  3. 300% GDP increase across 25 years sounds impressive, but GDP alone doesn’t tell the whole story. If people are still battling high prices, limited water supply, and stagnant wages, then the ‘soaring’ narrative doesn’t match lived reality.
