Minister of Public Works Maria Bird Browne has made it clear she has no intention of stepping down, despite persistent calls from the opposition for her resignation over the ongoing vehicle-purchase controversy.
This is the first time that the minister has addressed the matter publicly.
Bird Browne, who has faced intense scrutiny following revelations that about $15M worth of government vehicles were acquired outside the proper procurement procedures, said she remains focused on her responsibilities and on serving the public.

Minister of Housing and Works, Maria browne
The opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) has held protests, motorcades, and public meetings demanding her removal from office. However, speaking to ABS after Thursday’s Throne Speech, the minister dismissed the pressure as politically motivated.

Oh,please! Look closely and you will see just how clueless this woman is. Chances are, she’s following a script. This is the incompetence that prevades our government . However she spins it,this happened under her watch and she needs to step aside until the investigation is done.
Maria has handled major projects roads, water, school repairs. People may disagree with the scandal, but you can’t deny she has been active.
She stayed silent for weeks while the Prime Minister carried the issue. That alone raises questions about leadership
Fifteen million dollars in vehicles outside proper procedure is not a small thing. Any other minister anywhere else would have stepped aside
She says she’ll continue working for the people, but will her work reflect that, or just maintain the status quo?
She is working for herself and her pocket, both she and her husband. This administration is the first ever to have the most revenue, yet our country’s infrastructure still looks like we’re in the 80s and 90s. Politicians and their friends became multimillionaires while our healthcare system and facilities are deplorable, the roads deteriorate, there are no proper gutter drains, and even the water system is inadequate. After constructing so many Reverse Osmosis plants, we still can’t keep water running continuously through our pipes.
Let me just sit back and read comments
This is about accountability, not politics. You can’t preach transparency and then ignore a scandal this big
