Antigua Strengthens Global Voice on Climate Justice and Prepares for CHOGM 2026

Antigua and Barbuda continues to raise its international profile in diplomacy, climate advocacy, and global convening.

In the 2026 Speech from the Throne, the Governor-General noted the country’s recent hosting of SIDS4, the OAS General Assembly, and the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled for next November.

He outlined two major climate justice rulings that Government views as victories:
• ITLOS ruling linking land-based emissions to ocean pollution
• ICJ advisory opinion reinforcing the “polluter pays” principle

The Government also renewed its call for the Caribbean to be recognized as a “Zone of Peace” and reiterated its opposition to the U.S. embargo on Cuba.

Sir Rodney said Antigua and Barbuda will “never lose its voice” on climate justice issues affecting small island nations.
