Smart meters to be installed across the island to improve water operations
As the government continues to improve the water supply in Antigua and Barbuda, plans are being put in place to enhance the operations.
Cabinet Spokesperson Maurice Merchant explained that smart meters will be installed to help in the deterrence of meter tampering and aid in the accurate recording for residents.
A thousand will be installed in the first instance.
“These advanced devices will help curtail meter tampering, ensure accurate consumption readings, and support the authorities’ broader modernization and digitization initiatives,” Merchant explained.
A faults management system will also be installed.
“This is designed to monitor and detect leaks throughout the distribution network in real time, and this new system will strengthen APUA’s ability to respond rapidly to disruptions, minimize water loss, and enhance service delivery to households and businesses,” Merchant explained.
He revealed that water supply has increased and will continue to in the next few weeks with the start up of the Seven Seas desalination plant.
“The Antigua Public Utilities Authority was at Cabinet on Wednesday, and they reported significant progress in its water production capacity and infrastructure modernization efforts. 9.2 million gallons of water was reached per day during the week.
“This coming week, it is estimated to get to 10.6 million gallons per day, never before achieved in Antigua and Barbuda. So, we should see significant improvements in the water supply to households and businesses in Antigua and Barbuda,” Merchant added.

They will still find their way around that. Head make book
Hope this rollout goes smoothly—smart meters are a big step toward modernizing our water system.
Smart meters should detect when they Tief our power and water and charge us a tonnn of money
