A promising young Antiguan cricketer has earned a mid-series call-up to the regional youth squad currently battling England in Grenada.
Micah McKenzie, an 18-year-old leg-spinner from Empire Nation, arrived in Grenada earlier this week after leaving the Leeward Islands Hurricanes camp in Trinidad, where he had been competing in the CWI Super 50 tournament.
Cricket West Indies has confirmed that McKenzie will be available for selection starting with today’s match at the Grenada National Stadium, as well as the series decider scheduled for December 1st.
Earlier this year, he topped the bowling charts in the CWI Breakout Lead competition with 12 wickets, and followed that performance with 14 wickets for the Leeward Islands in the CWI Under-19 tournament.
McKenzie isn’t the only late addition to the Caribbean youth squad. Shamar Apple of the Guyana Harpy Eagles has also been added to the roster for the final two encounters against the visiting English side.
The reinforcements come at a crucial juncture in the seven-match series, with the West Indies Under-19s currently holding a 3-2 advantage over their opponents. Two matches remain to determine the series winner.

Good move by CWI. We need quality spinners and this youth is the real deal.
Micah has the potential to be the next big Caribbean wrist spinner. Keep him grounded and developing
Mid-series changes are usually made to strengthen specific areas, so Micah’s inclusion suggests he brings something the team needs right now.
