The Department of Environment hosted a lively Arbor Day celebration on Wednesday, drawing plant lovers, eco-enthusiasts, and local vendors to its grounds for a morning dedicated to sustainability.
Though Arbor Day is globally recognized on November 16, Antigua and Barbuda observes it annually on November 27. This year’s theme — “Buzzing with Power: Planting Trees for a Climate-Smart Future” — underscored the nation’s focus on climate resilience and biodiversity.
The event grounds were transformed into a bustling plant marketplace, featuring fruit trees, vegetable seedlings, ornamentals, and eco-friendly products. Popular picks included white guava, cherry plants, and coconut trees, with prices starting as low as $5, making the offerings accessible to both casual gardeners and serious growers.
Attendees praised the variety and affordability, noting that events like these help promote backyard gardening and strengthen local agriculture.
Educational displays and expert advice further encouraged residents to take an active role in environmental conservation.
The Department of Environment thanked vendors, volunteers, and the public for their support and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a greener, more sustainable Antigua and Barbuda.
