Power Glitches at VC Bird Terminal Cause Minor Disruptions — Flight Operations Remain Unaffected

The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA) says flight operations at VC Bird International Airport continued smoothly on Saturday despite two brief power outages inside the terminal building.

According to the Authority, the airport experienced another successful homeporting day, with a surge in cruise passengers moving through the facility. Even with the increased traffic, wait times for cruise visitors reportedly averaged under 10 minutes, supported by all four security lanes operating at full capacity.

The first power interruption occurred around 4:00 p.m. and lasted roughly one minute. A second outage took place at 6:00 p.m., lasting about five minutes. Both incidents were confined to the terminal building.

ABAA emphasized that runway lighting, jet bridges, apron systems, and all airside operations remained fully functional, ensuring no impact on airline schedules or overall airport safety.

The Authority says it is investigating the root cause of the terminal-only outages and is taking steps to prevent a recurrence. The effort forms part of an ongoing airport renewal programme, which includes upgrades to aging mechanical systems as the terminal marks its tenth anniversary.

ABAA thanked passengers and airport partners for their patience during the brief disruptions and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and customer service at VC Bird International Airport.
