Magnitude 3.7 Earthquake Recorded Near Antigua and Barbuda

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake was felt in parts of the northeastern Caribbean on Sunday afternoon, according to the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC).

The quake struck at 12:32 p.m. local time at a depth of 53 kilometres. Its epicentre was calculated at 16.05°N, 62.51°W, placing it about 138 kilometres southwest of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda.

The nearest population centre was Brades, Montserrat, located roughly 88 kilometres northeast of the epicentre. The event also occurred about 110 kilometres west-southwest of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

UWI-SRC notes that the earthquake’s location was generated by automatic computer algorithms and should be considered preliminary until reviewed by analysts.

There are no immediate reports of it being felt in Antigua and Barbuda.
