Police to Step Up Island-Wide Traffic Operations Amid Rising Road Accidents

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has announced a major increase in traffic enforcement activities as authorities respond to a worrying spike in collisions and fatal road accidents across the island.

Beginning immediately, police officers will intensify roadside checks and expand stop-and-search operations during both daytime and nighttime hours. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to promote responsible driving and ensure stricter compliance with national traffic laws.

According to the Police Administration, officers will be targeting unlicensed and uninsured vehicles, mechanical defects, and other breaches of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Regulations. Motorists are urged to confirm that their vehicles are fully roadworthy and that all documentation is current.

Drivers are also being reminded to obey posted speed limits and exercise heightened caution on the roadways, particularly as police work to address behaviors linked to serious accidents.

The administration is appealing to the public for patience and cooperation as these operations may occasionally slow traffic or cause brief disruptions. However, officials say the inconvenience is a small price to pay compared to the loss of life and injury seen in recent months.

Police officials thanked residents for their continued support and emphasized that improving road safety is a shared responsibility.

  1. Police supposed to always be on the roads but in recent years you can hardly find them just chilling on the road ways watching traffic

  2. Police on the road doesn’t matter. People speeding cross police and they just relaxed…. Tickets won’t stop people from speeding…

  9. There’s a better way to manage this but when a civilian gives their input we get shut down and are told a lot of other thingswhich has nothing to do with nothing. Stop and search are mostly good for unlicensed and uninsured and the few minor thi gs ..tail , head lights ect. Real there’s a lot to be said but time and this platform wouldn’t allow it. But stop parking but R U wo(man) yard with them ppl them vehicle and just be present, that could be a start.
