The government is inviting members of the public to submit recommendations on proposed legislation aimed at modernizing the country’s consumer protection framework.
The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division of the Ministry of Trade has announced that the Price of Goods Bill is now available for public review and comment until December 31st.
The modern legislation is designed to repeal and replace the Distribution and Price of Goods Act Cap 138, bringing the country’s consumer protection framework in line with current economic realities.
According to a notice issued by the division on December 1st, the bill can be accessed online at consumeraffairs.gov.ag or through a direct link at https://laws.gov.ag/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/The-Price-of-Goods-Bill-2025.pdf.
Members of the public who wish to provide feedback on the proposed legislation can submit their recommendations by emailing [email protected]. Alternatively, submissions can be sent to [email protected] or [email protected] before the December 31st deadline.
The division emphasized that it encourages all interested persons to contribute to this important aspect of consumer protection, signaling the government’s commitment to inclusive policy-making.
The current Distribution and Price of Goods Act Cap 138, which the new bill would replace, has been in effect for several years but is now considered outdated given changes in the economic landscape and consumer market dynamics.
The public consultation period gives residents, businesses, and stakeholder organizations nearly a month to review the proposed legislation and offer input before it potentially moves forward to Parliament.
