MP Kelvin Simon confronts AG on the Kahleel Simon investigation

Member of Parliament for St. Mary’s South, Kelvin ‘Shugy’ Simon addressed the fatal police shooting of Kahleel Simon during his 2026 Budget rebuttal on Monday afternoon. The shooting that took place in the MP’s constituent community of Bolans has not produced any recent updates concerning its investigation.

Simon referred to the shooting as “reckless” and expressed concern over the government’s lack of transparency in relation to the investigations surrounding the incident.

Simon’s family members have continued to organize protests outside Police Headquarters, continuing to call for the dismissal of the officer responsible for the killing.

MP Simon emphasized that the situation has negatively impacted the relationship between the police and the citizens of the nation, resulting in increased mistrust and diminished cooperation.

“The deafening silence that’s coming from law enforcement, it doesn’t speak well”, said Simon. “And it is not encouraging for people to work along with the police; now they see police as an enemy.”
