Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle calls on government to address the fatal shooting of Kahleel Simon
Leader of the Opposition, Jamale Pringle, has used his 2026 Budget rebuttal to call on Attorney General Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin to publicly address the death of 18-year-old Kahleel Simon, the Bolans teenager who was shot and killed on the night of his birthday.
Pringle said the incident has shaken the nation and demanded clarity and accountability from the authorities. He argued that the Attorney General, as the country’s chief legal officer, must speak directly to the public on the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
“If anything at all, the parents deserve answers,” Pringle stated during his presentation, noting the family’s ongoing grief and frustration.
Simon’s relatives have been staging repeated protests outside Police Headquarters, calling for the removal of the officer who fired the fatal shot and urging the authorities to move swiftly on the investigation.
Pringle said the silence from senior officials is unacceptable and insisted that the public must be reassured that justice will be pursued transparently and without delay.

Not on many occasions do I agree with what Pringle says. But in this instance I have to. The police is silent on this issue
A tough call-out from Pringle here. The community will want clear answers, and quickly. Accountability can’t drag when a young life has been lost.
We still waiting for Manie James and the rest of the people who are dead and need justice
He was just 18… that could have been any of us. We’re scared, and nobody is saying what really happened. We need the truth.
Glad Pringle is speaking up. Too many incidents like this go unanswered.
Back in my day, when something tragic happened, leaders came out and spoke to the people. We expect no less today. A mother and father are grieving. Somebody must tell them what happened to their child
It affects the whole community. When trust between the people and the police breaks down, crime gets worse. The Attorney General needs to provide clarity so the healing can begin
Every parent in this country felt that family’s pain. An 18-year-old should be celebrating life, not losing it. The government must understand that silence only deepens mistrust. We need answers, and we need them now
Our young people already feel unheard and unprotected. When something like this happens, and leaders remain quiet, it sends the wrong message. The Attorney General must step forward. We cannot keep brushing these incidents aside
That boy was from our community. We watched him grow up. It hurts all of us. The protests will not stop until there is accountability. This is not politics…this is a child’s life
