A 29-year-old man from Ottos has been charged after police reportedly discovered an illegal firearm and ammunition during a routine patrol in St. John’s on Thursday night.

According to police, Otis Jackson was arrested around 9:00 p.m. on December 11 while officers were conducting mobile patrols in the Tindall Road area. During the operation, police intercepted and searched a vehicle in which Jackson was an occupant.

The search allegedly led to the discovery of a 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol along with seven matching rounds of ammunition. Jackson was taken into custody and later formally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Police also seized the weapon and ammunition, and the vehicle involved was taken to Police Headquarters for safekeeping.

Jackson is expected to appear before the court to answer the charges.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda says it remains committed to removing illegal firearms from the nation’s streets and continues to urge members of the public to assist law enforcement by sharing reliable information.

Anyone with information related to illegal firearms or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or Crimestoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
