Integrated Health Outreach (IHO) has announced the launch of an eight-week Arts & Crafts Making for Business course, offering 30 scholarships aimed at empowering local residents with practical, income-generating skills.
Applications opened on December 12, 2025, and will close on January 15, 2026. Successful applicants will receive hands-on training in soapmaking, candlemaking, resin crafts, and flower pressing during twice-weekly, in-person sessions at the former BBC Relay Station in the Lightfoot area, beginning February 2, 2026.
The programme is part of the IHO-implemented CBF EbA Caribbean Project, supported by the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund, and is designed to promote sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience within Nelson’s Dockyard National Park.
Residents of Liberta, Falmouth, Cobbs Cross, English Harbour, Spring Hill, Patterson, Fishers, Doigs, Barters, and Cherry Hill are especially encouraged to apply, as these communities fall within the project’s primary focus area. Applicants from neighbouring communities may also be considered if space allows.
Applicants will be required to complete basic eligibility questions and explain why they should be selected for the programme. IHO Communications Officer Kieron Murdoch said interest is already growing and urged applicants to make a strong case, noting that the course offers valuable skills for both existing entrepreneurs and individuals seeking additional income opportunities.
The Arts & Crafts course is one of several initiatives under the CBF EbA Caribbean Project, which also includes beekeeping training, ecotourism programmes, scuba diving scholarships, and support for coral restoration and ecosystem management efforts in collaboration with the National Parks Authority.
Interested persons can apply via the IHO application portal before the January 15 deadline.
