Prime Minister Gaston Browne says destruction of Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle’s tent was not political

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has rejected claims that the destruction of a tent belonging to Opposition MP Jamale Pringle at Morris Bay was politically motivated, saying the action was carried out in accordance with planning regulations.

Speaking on the matter, Prime Minister Browne said that hours before the tent was removed, he was personally called in by Minister responsible for the Development Control Authority (DCA), Rawdon Turner, regarding the enforcement action.

Opposition Leader and All Saints East & St. Luke MP Jamal Pringle has publicly alleged that the destruction of his tent was driven by political victimisation.

However, the Prime Minister strongly refuted those claims, insisting that the enforcement exercise had nothing to do with politics.

Browne maintained that the action formed part of the DCA’s mandate to enforce the Physical Planning Act and ensure compliance along the country’s coastline, including Morris Bay.
