Collapsed boardwalk linking Redcliffe Quay and Heritage Quay

Sections of the boardwalk linking Redcliffe Quay and Heritage Quay collapsed earlier today, causing alarm in downtown St. John’s during a peak cruise day when an estimated 12,000 visitors were on the island.

Unconfirmed reports suggested that at least two tourists were thrown into the water and sustained minor injuries.

The incident occurred amid heavy pedestrian traffic along the popular waterfront corridor, drawing immediate attention from nearby businesses, residents, and visitors. Several onlookers expressed concern about public safety in the area, particularly given the volume of daily foot traffic during cruise ship operations.

According to informed sources, the section of the boardwalk that failed is not managed by Antigua Cruise Port but falls under direct government responsibility.

Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and assess the structural integrity of the remaining boardwalk.

The collapse has renewed concerns about infrastructure maintenance in high-traffic tourism zones, especially during peak periods when thousands of residents and visitors rely on these walkways.
