Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers

Newly appointed Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers reported measurable progress in crime reduction and police reform in his inaugural Christmas and End-of-Year address to members of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda.

Jeffers said overall crime declined by approximately ten percent in 2025, alongside increases in arrests and convictions.

He attributed the gains to proactive policing, improved intelligence-led operations, and stronger public cooperation, while acknowledging ongoing challenges related to violent crime, illegal firearms, cyber threats, and transnational criminal activity.

The Commissioner said the Force remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and community-oriented policing as it moves into 2026.

Jeffers also outlined a series of operational upgrades and capacity-building initiatives implemented in 2025, describing the year as one of transformation for the Royal Police Force.

He highlighted expanded training programmes, modernized investigative processes, strengthened data-driven policing, and the establishment of a Cold Case Unit.

He also pointed to enhancements to the Drone Team, the expansion of the K-9 Unit with four new dogs, and upgrades to the St. John’s Police Station. The Fire Department, he noted, benefited from new fire tenders, ongoing work at the Bolans Fire Station, and plans for the reconstruction of the St. John’s Fire Station.

Jeffers said these investments are critical to equipping officers to operate effectively in an increasingly complex security environment.
